Update from Tom

It gives me immense pleasure to welcome back our Forest Family and Friends to the Hostel in the Forest, having been closed since Friday, the 13th of March, 2020, our first closure of any length since the hostel opened on July 4, 1975. Our plans are to begin receiving guests commencing Monday July 12th. However, in the first few weeks, we are limiting the number of members and guests to 14 each night. We will commence taking reservations on Tuesday July 6th. Phone hours are 9am to 6pm every day: 912-264-9738

We would not be reopening at all if it hadn’t been for the generous donations of so many members to keep us afloat. I’d like to thank each and every one of you who donated to the hostel while we struggled to make mortgage payments each month with no income.

The hostel has evolved over the past 46 years from a three dollar a night accommodation, mostly to travelers touring the states from other countries to an environmental, spiritual haven and get away for all of us who are struggling to live in a troubled world.

I cannot say enough about our remarkable caretakers, who watched over the forest with care during the closure. We owe them a huge debt of gratitude for managing to keep the grounds cleaned, caring for the chickens and ducks and for having a thriving garden with healthy, organic vegetables.

The board of directors and I feel it necessary to do our best to keep the hostel, the manager, the staff and all the guests as safe as possible, so we are requiring that everyone show proof of vaccination for Covid-19, so that we may enjoy the magic of the Forest again without worry or concern of infection. We are also going to have to raise our price per overnight, per member to $40.
