Sliding Scale For Nightly Rates
Important update regarding our new sliding scale for nightly rates:
The Hostel in the Forest is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that has been providing financially accessible accommodation and retreat space in a pristine forest setting for many decades. People from all walks of life seek comfort and home at the Hostel. Due to the mounting financial pressures of our current times, the ongoing upkeep of Hostel structures visible and invisible, and to continue our mission, the Hostel in the Forest is introducing a sliding scale for nightly rates in order to ensure accessibility to folks from the whole financial spectrum. Instead of pricing out folks by simply raising our nightly rate, we are opening up the possibility for folks from a more abundant financial background to give accordingly.
What’s changing?
By changing the nightly rate from a flat rate of $40 to a sliding scale of $40 - $80 we acknowledge the current income inequality of our country and open up the possibility for guests to determine how much they are able to give depending on their financial circumstances.
How does it work?
The sliding scale will entirely be based on an honorary system. Guests will be able to determine their nightly rate based on what they feel they can contribute. The minimum amount ensures continued accessibility to hostel guests while the maximum amount is comparable to similar outdoor experiences in our area. Guests are responsible to determine a fair amount to pay for their stay; the Hostel staff and manager will not be suggestive of an amount to pay, since we are unaware of each guest’s unique financial situation. Furthermore, nightly rates paid per person will stay confidential and guests who are able to give more will not receive more attention and vice versa. Everyone who comes through the Hostel is and will be treated equally. *Rates for kids 7-17 will remain $20 and kids under 7 are free*
