RETREAT: Sweat Lodge
Join us for the first sweat lodge in the forest this year!
In a sweat lodge ceremony there are physical benefits such as purifying the body and ridding it of toxins, while lifting the mind and spirit to higher realms. The lodge represents the womb of mother and as we conclude and exit the experience, we feel a rebirth of renewed life.
Cloud Feather will be the water pourer. The lodge is for all people whether you are first time or have experience with the sweat lodge. Cloud is a licensed naturopathic physician, Sundance singer and songwriter. He facilitates both youth and adult needs enrichment workshops utilizing sound healing, singing, dance and drumming healing techniques.
For guests participating in the sweat, you MUST arrive on Thursday, May 23rd
Thursday, May 23rd: Opening Ceremony
- There will be an opening ceremony after dinner on Thursday night, where instructions will be given for the day of the sweat, what to expect, etc.
Friday, May 24th: Sweat Lodge
- On Friday, we ask that you not eat after 9:00 or 9:30am. During the day will be a day of reflection, intention setting, and quiet time, to prepare physically and mentally. You will assist in preparing the sweat lodge during the day. The ceremony will begin at around 5pm. There will be four rounds of the sweat lodge ceremony - lasting somewhere around 2.5 hours in total. There are short breaks in between rounds and water can be brought inside the lodge. After the sweat, a dinner will be served.
Participants are encouraged to HYDRATE (drinking ½ gallon of water a day for the few days before and day of the sweat). Guests are encouraged not to drink alcohol or consume meat for the 48 hours before the sweat. The body will be purifying and ridding itself of toxins during the sweat and this helps to prepare the body for that. No one will be allowed to enter the lodge if they have been drinking alcohol or if they are high on any substances.
What to wear:
According to the American Indian Health and Family Services -
"Attire includes shorts for men and a long dress or long skirt and modest top for women. Many people also like to bring a towel. Please don’t wear any metal (including underwires) as they can become hot during the lodge."

Respect:
It is essential that everyone participating in the sweat must have respect for what is taking place. Their intention for sweating must be good. They should always go into the sweat with a belief of healing and not take any negative attitudes with them inside the sweat. It must be stressed that we are all brothers and sisters and connected to the Creator of the universe.
