Join the teachers from the Yoga Co-op at Ashram Savannah for a weekend of yoga and community at The Hostel in the Forest. The mission of the Yoga Co-op is to provide a space and a community for yoga teachers and students to come together and share their practice and study of yoga. The Co-op is intended to provide an environment for education, dialog, personal growth, and transformation of the body, mind, and spirit.
Friday, May 1
Vegan Dinner followed by Campfire Dharma Talk – After dinner on Friday night we’ll gather around the campfire to kick off the weekend with a discussion about the 8 limbs of yoga. We will discuss the yamas and the niyamas, which provide guidance on living in harmony with self and society.
Saturday, May 2
Morning Yoga Practice with Brent Martin – Brent Martin will lead a class focused on 10 poses for opening your heart. This class will be suitable for all levels of students. The beautiful glass house in which we will practice will provide the perfect setting for a deep relaxation at the end of the session, followed by Vegan Brunch. Then Afternoon Karma Yoga Project – The tradition of yoga includes “Karma Yoga,” which translates as “selfless service.” Saturday afternoon we will join together to work on ongoing projects at the Hostel. Then Chakra Balancing Yoga Practice with Cookie McLaren – Cookie McLaren will lead students through a practice focused on balancing the energy in the body by working with the chakras and Vegan Dinner. Then Candlelit Labyrinth Walk/Meditation – After dark on Saturday we will gather at the labyrinth for a candlelit walking meditation. When walking a labyrinth, you meander back and forth, turning 180 degrees as you enter each new circuit. When you shift your direction in this way, you also shift your awareness from the right brain to left brain. This is one of the reasons the labyrinth is believed to induce receptive states of consciousness. It is also said help to balance the chakras.
Sunday, May 3
Morning Yoga Practice with Christine Glover – The Sunday morning yoga practice will be dynamic. Christine Glover will lead students through a series of energizing postures to open the body, mind and spirit.
The cost is $100 per person for the entire weekend. Reservations will be made on a first come first serve basis beginning April 1st, 2009. More info on the co-op and teachers here.
