Weekly Update 03/8/2010

Posted March 8th, 2010

During this past week at the Hostel hopefully we saw what will be the last of the cold nights of winter. Flowers are blooming, pine pollen is gently coating everything with it’s yellow glow, and there have even been a few bathing suites sported as guests are braving dips in the lake. The garden is growing and expanding in full force, and the blueberries have been given some sweet attention to allow them to grow in full glory in the coming months, as well as some blueberry bushes have been planted around the lake for snack time while canoeing. We’ve said goodbye to our staff member MikeJoe, and said hello to returning staff member Katie, and we are eagerly anticipating the arrivals new staff and work exchangers, as well as the next hostel manager. In the meantime, March is our busiest month of the year being spring break, so it’s best to make reservations before things fill up, and if you have to cancel, do call us and let us know so we can give up your space for another lovely guest to come through! On another note, we are relying entirely upon all guests to take out what you bring in as far as recycling goes… so when you are packing for your trip in the grocery store looking at that 12 pack, please remember that you will be taking it back with you when you leave here. Recycling starts not at the curb, but in the store, where you can choose to buy things that don’t come in excess packaging, where you can buy things in bulk or in larger quantities to reduce packaging, where you can use reusable grocery bags, and where you can buy items only in containers that are reusable, among many other ways to reduce your impact. Remember, leave no trace, or enhance the space!
